An excerpt from Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin will be screened.

  • Rev. Laura Rose of First Congregational Church Alameda, 
  • Jill Marcellus of theGay-Straight Alliance Network, and 
  • a representative from Our Family Coalitionwill participate in a panel discussion in response to the film.



In recognition of LGBT History Month, the Alameda Multicultural Community Center hosts this
film event honoring the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans
in the history of our nation. The film event will include an excerpt from the documentary
film Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin, esteemed African-American civil rights
leader and chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom.
LGBT History Month takes place during the month of October in the U.S. National Coming
Out Day, an internationally observed awareness day, is celebrated on October 11th. The FAIR
Education Act, California SB48, now legislates that the role and contributions of LGBT people
in history will be included in social sciences instruction, as are the contributions of men and
women, and those with disabilities and from diverse cultural and ethnic groups.
