Gay Man with Alzheimer’s Attacked in New Hampshire

HOLDERNESS, NH – June 30, 2011 – On June 23, 2011 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Jordan Lassoff, 59, was taking his usual morning walk in his Holderness NH neighborhood when he was
assaulted verbally and physically. Lassoff, a frail man who suffers from advanced Alzheimer’s
disease, and who uses a walker, was approached by a man in a vehicle that pulled alongside him
on Cromwell Point Road during his walk. The man demanded money from Lassoff, who did not
carry his wallet with him. The man then got out of the vehicle, struck and pushed Lassoff to the
ground. He cursed at Lassoff, including using a slur against homosexuals, and threatened him,
telling him that he and his partner were being watched. Lassoff was left lying face-down in the
dirt while the assailant fled in his vehicle.

Due to his advanced stage of Alzheimer’s, Lassoff was unable to remember many details about
the man or his vehicle, other than he was a white male in his mid-40s. The police were notified
about the incident and have stepped up patrols of the neighborhood and are on the lookout for
the suspect. The assault is being treated as a hate crime and the New Hampshire State Attorney
General’s office is expected to work with local police on the investigation, which is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact Jeremiah Patridge, Chief of Police
in Holderness, at 603-968-9555.
